A Lesson in the Definite and Indefinite Articles

Emma lost the father figure to one of her doll-house collections. When she asked dad to help her find “the daddy,” as she calls him, dad answered (rather reasonably, he thought), “But I’m the daddy, and I’m right here.” Emma was very patient as she corrected her father: “You’re not the daddy, you’re a daddy. I need you to find the daddy.” The daddy, as it turned out, was on holiday, as he is sometimes wont to do, inside the stereo sub-woofer.
